Life

One of my favourite food in Dou-Liu is pineapple bun. I don’t’ know why it was called pineapple bun. However, I do know it tastes good. Last week, before I went home, I bought a pineapple bun and took it home. My family all enjoyed the pineapple bun especially my brother. The most delicious pineapple bun in Dou-Liu is in “Sweet Way” bakery. It is made from granulated sugar, eggs, flour and lard. That’s why it has a sweet smell and also tastes sweet.

Life

Today Phoebe and I went to see Chinese medicine doctor that Jessie introduced to us to see our physical problems. There are a lot of problems that we don’t know in our body. However, after the doctor took our pulse, he knew everything. The doctor used computers to prescribe us one week herbs powder. I really loved the taste of herbs powder although everyone said it was bitter. Each one of us only had to pay 90 NT dollars for this treatment because of health insurance card and student identity card. It really helps student a lot because we don’t have to pay full charge.

Music-Different branch of rock: Alternative rock

As time passes by, all types of music are changing. I am so addicted to alternative rock. Alternative rock is a different branch of rock. Music types come and go just like the trend of fashion. Therefore, music types are various by mixing different types of music together. Alternative rock is created by a group of people who are full of ideas and don’t want to follow the mainstream of music. They wrote the lyrics and composed the songs on their own. We also call the music as “Indie Music”.

Comparing to general rock, alternative rock has stronger beat. They both have vocalists, guitarists, bassists and percussionists. The alternative rock bands always write the lyrics that show public affairs. We can know their ideas through their lyrics and music videos. Most of them have experienced bad situations when they were young. Sometimes they will add their emotions into the lyrics. It really makes a good connection between writers and listeners.

Sometimes, their music has more than one element inside. We can listen to their music that combines with other type of music. When their lyrics show their personal emotions and introspections, we usually call the music as “emo”. Emo is another type of music. It is an abbreviation of “Emocore”. We sometimes call them as “post hardcore”, because emo evolved from hardcore which lyrics are full of political criticism. Emo is modern and full of complex composition and guitar fingering. It always has lots of fun listening to music and knows what their features are.

When I listen to alternative rock, sometimes I feel that I can feel thy way why wrote the songs. Although this type of music is sometimes unacceptable by people, they think it is too loud and noisy. But, undeniable, they are quite talented comparing to those who always gets famous for their “cover version” of songs. Music is an important part of my life. Sometimes, it is hard to distinguish the music types. However, the most important thing is that you have to appreciate your favourite types of music on your own ears.

Taiwan's Helicopter Parents

I used to read an article about “Taiwan's Helicopter Parents” in Common Wealth magazine. After reading this article, I do not feel quite surprised about parents who overly spy on their children. Going to cram schools is always a common phenomenon that happens everywhere in Taiwan. In Taiwan, parents tend to control and interfere in children's life. Parents always make the decisions for us, such as which cram schools should go or which subjects should take. The most horrible part is that we are losing our independent thinking and the ability to solve problems when various circumstances come to us. I once went to Kaohsiung, and I saw that there are various cram schools nearby Kaohsiung train station. In front of the cram schools, there are a lot of parents waiting for their children. Every parent wants their children to be on the top of the society and outstanding among a group of people. Thus, they devote themselves to preparing their children's future. This is not a good phenomenon. If parents overly spy on their children, it will bring immaterial pressure to their children. For me, I do not want my parents to accompany me when I go to cram schools, either. Moreover, children might become even more dependent on their parents. It is quite a miserable thing if everything is well-prepared for you, and you do not have to make your own decisions. We are losing our ability gradually. Therefore, we should reconsider what is good for us.

Happiness Survey

I remembered that last semester a teacher showed us a “Happiness Survey”. I was quite surprised to see the result of the happiness survey. In my opinion, I always thought that living in the world that changes so quickly made people feel worried and unsatisfied. However, the result of the “Happiness Survey” turned out to be that 80% of Taiwanese feel happy. To take me as instance, I am satisfied with my current life now since I do not have to worry about a lot of things. What I have to do now is to concentrate on my study. The survey also showed that some of the respondents are worried about their future. For me, I am quite worried about my future since there are universities everywhere. The world has become more competitive than it used to be. Still, I believe that being optimistic is fairly important for us. When people are overly pessimistic, they will keep thinking the bad sides of our society. They will think there is no hope in the future. Therefore, I believe that we should all keep a positive attitude towards life.

Life

This summer, I joined a camp. The camp was totally free of charge. After getting off the train, I was stunned by the enthusiastic volunteers. They met us with big smiles and helped us to carry our luggage even if we told them we could carry by ourselves. Unfortunately, there was a big typhoon during that time. I remembered one night that we had to go to the dormitory from an auditorium. The wind was very strong and it was raining heavily. However, there are still a lot of volunteers directing us to the dormitory in a very bad situation. They also cooked dinner for us in tents. We all moved by those volunteers. They were selfness and devoted themselves to us. I believed that their kind hearts will be repaid.

Life

When I was a child, I had a special experience with eagles. My grandfather used to discover a wounded eagle and brought it home. I remembered that my grandfather kept it in a big cage. The eagle soon became well-trained by my grandfather. It could also stay at my grandfather’s arm and even on the bicycle. However, one day, my grandfather forgot to close the cage, and the eagle flew away. However, it was a special experience that I had before.

Something backfired

As I mentioned before, I’ve already decided to run everyday with Phoebe. After running for more than a week, Phoebe said that we should go to the health centre to weigh our weight now. With huge expectations, we went to the health centre immediately. Finally, it was the moment. I stood at the body weight scale. However, my plan to lose some weight backfired and turned out to gain some weight. At that moment, I just wanted to scream. I’ve run almost more than one week and eaten less food than before. But, what I saw was that I gained some weight. I was totally stunned. I felt so frustrated and questioned myself whether I wanted to keep running or not. It made me feel so frustrated because I’ve made a lot of efforts to lose weight. I didn’t see any change in me, still, I had to keep on running everyday. I believed that if I keep on running, I will lose some weight sooner or later.
